KB1107 - Command-line syntax for debugging installation errors

If an MSI file will not install and shows an error, logging the output to a log file might be helpful in determining the cause of the error. This is also helpful to WM Software technical support.

To log the installation steps to a file, create a folder off the root of C:. This example assumes the folder C:\Temp already exists. Copy the MSI file into that folder, then run the following at a command prompt:

C:\temp>msiexec /i c:\temp\setupfile.msi /l*v c:\temp\log.txt
