StartupPlus WOL

StartupPlus WOL (Wake On LAN) can remotely power on all computers on a network. Computers can be setup in groups so each group has a different power-up time. One computer is required to be on 24x7.

Hardware:
The computer running StartupPlus WOL needs to be running at the scheduled "wake-up" time.
The network computers need a network card and/or motherboard LAN connection with WOL capability
3MB RAM and 5MB HD space

Software:
The computer running StartupPlus WOL requires Windows 2000, XP, 2003, or higher. StartupPlus WOL will not run on Windows 9x/Me/NT4 computers.
Computers being powered on do not require any software

The computers StartupPlus WOL will be turning on require the following:

  • A LAN add-in or on-board card that supports Wake On LAN (WOL). Most newer motherboards have a "Wake on LAN" feature enabled in the motherboard BIOS; LAN cards may require a 3-pin cable connecting the LAN card to the motherboard to enable WOL operation. Refer to your LAN card and motherboard documentation for more information.
  • A motherboard that supports WOL in the BIOS. Usually this is referred to "Wake-On LAN" or "LAN Boot"
  • WOL enabled in the motherboard BIOS or the LAN card.
  • A network cable connected to the LAN card. Usually, if the computer is turned off and the LAN card and/or hub have their light still turned on, then the LAN card has the power necessary to send a WOL signal to the motherboard. StartupPlus WOL can send a message over any type of connection (Ethernet, Token-Ring, Fiber, BNC) or transport (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBIOS).

There are only a few but important factors to ensure StartupPlus WOL works correctly. They are listed above and in the following picture (taken from Windows XP). Windows (XP shown) should have its NIC properties set to the following on the Power Management tab (Intel Pro/100S Server Adapter shown):
