Just a few of our very satisfied customers...
- “I will always choose a full company that supports its software for my terminal servers versus a script. And your support is fantastic.”
– Thomas, Government IT Manager - “We script a few things, but mostly stuff to handle simple tasks here and there. With something as sensitive as Citrix server restarting, we prefer a tried and tested solution.”
– Byron, ISP Hosting Manager - "ShutdownPlus Rolling Restart has proven to be the perfect solution for our Terminal Server farm operating 24x7x365. It's surprisingly easy to setup and administer, and it has worked flawlessly since implementation."
– Jason, Intel Server Analyst
You have too much invested in your server environment to depend on a batch file or a script to restart your servers - they need to be up and available for users, period. You can trust ShutdownPlus Rolling Restart - it runs at some of the largest and well-known companies around the world, and those companies know that part of protecting their investment comes by using fully-supported professional software. ShutdownPlus Rolling Restart carries certifications from both Microsoft and VMware, so it has the backing you need.
Per-server cost with discounts are as low as $25 per server and include renewable maintenance. This small investment can pay off many times over, as staff doesn’t have to manually restart servers, watch users, or babysit a script. See the white paper above on how much you can save. Administrators are already over-tasked. Run the software designed and proven to handle the loads of professional environments. Why trust your servers with anything else?
- “I will always choose a full company that supports its software for my terminal servers versus a script. And your support is fantastic.”
- Problems using a batch file or script to restart servers
-
- High Risks - it goes without saying the risks involved in trusting your mission-critical, line-of-business terminal servers to a free/unsupported batch/script. They can never do all of the tasks necessary for a clean reboot, and they all run shutdown.exe or tsshutdown.exe (from the Windows 2000 days). Neither are recommended for terminal servers.
- Unreliable - think of the significant investment your company has invested in hardware, software, and staff salaries to support its critical business functions on terminal servers…now you want to trust farm uptime to a script?
- Can Cause Errors - after a while, errors can occur that requires manual intervention to fix, taking administrators' time. We have had many customers purchase our software after the servers eventually would not boot because of Registry errors.
- No Support - when problems occur, you’ll have to take the time to programatically fix it. And test it. On your production servers. Scripts don’t come with a dedicated support staff when problems occur. Maintaining the script and modifying its code rests solely on you.
- Simplistic - scripts cannot access the low-level functions required to ensure reliable restarts. Even the most sophisticated scripts handle only a very small fraction of what needs to be done before a proper restart takes place.
- Skills Needed - you or your staff will need to be proficient script programmers.
- Time - you will always need to take time to configure and modify the script and make sure it's running.
- No Backing - scripts are not Microsoft, VMware, or Citrix certified.

What about those currently logged on to the server? Do you have a way to generate a summary report or automatically attempt to restart servers that were skipped? What about only restarting in a specific timeframe with servers that are required to be available 24x7? Or separate groups configured differently? Or a GUI interface to configure your restarts? The ShutdownPlus Rolling Restart management console is installed and run from one computer. This console manages multiple groups with multiple servers or desktops in each group. The console even can cross domains.
The ShutdownPlus Rolling Restart client runs on all versions of Windows, from Windows 2000 to Windows 2012, and is required because of the advanced processing that is done on the client that is impossible to do remotely.
